Words on my deskpad

I know this blog has been carelessly handled, sorry!

I have to think of some interesting content but meanwhile I'll post the words I have written on my deskpad while surfing the internet:

bandage - der Verband
sunscreen - das Sonnenschutzmittel
savage - wild
tame - zahm
hostile - feindlich, feindselig
heirloom - das Erbstück

I know it is a funny collection but sometimes it is even worse on my deskpad (die Schreibtischunterlage)!

Cooking vocabulary

Sometimes when I read a blog entry, I come up with a lot of new of forgotten words afterwards. This time I read a recipe from one of my favorite blogs (Cajun Meatloaf by The Pioneer Woman Cooks) and I wrote down the following words:

breadcrumbs - die Semmelbrösel, das Paniermehl
whole milk - die Vollmilch
nutmeg - der Muskat
to yield - ergeben, liefern, einräumen
to mince up - zerhacken, in kleine Stücke schneiden
skillet - die Bratpfanne
to toss - werfen
to incorporate - verbinden, vereinigen
sheet - das Blech
to slather - dick schmieren
to slide - schieben

Poem

"Yesterday is history,
tomorrow is a mystery,
and today is a gift.
That's why we call it
the present"

Eleanor Roosevelt

take ...

Today I'd like to share some idioms with "take":

to take pity on s.o. - Mitleid mit jemandem haben
to take care of s.o. - sich um jemanden kümmern
to take advantage of s.o. - jemanden ausnutzen
to take s.th. back - etwas zurücknehmen

Zuckerbrot ...

I've just learned a new expression:

"Zuckerbrot und Peitsche" - "carrot-and-stick"

Poem

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight.
Wish I may, wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight.
